The Shop Local, Shop Sodbury campaign was set up by the town’s chamber of commerce to highlight the number of independent retailers in Chipping Sodbury.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, December 5, with the bus service operating from a free overflow car park. It will run from 10am-12.30pm and from 1pm-3pm.

Since the launch of the special day, a nationwide scheme called Small Business Saturday has been established along the same lines as the Chipping Sodbury project.

Last year, around the country, it led to 16.5 million people shopping in independently run businesses on the day.

Rich McDonough, vice-chairman of the chamber, said: “Chipping Sodbury is a great place to visit at all times of the year but especially at Christmas time.

“We have a huge line up of independent retailers and more than 15 eateries, with plenty of free car parking and a friendly welcome.”

The event also coincides with two vintage-themed fairs, a Christmas market in Hatherell’s yard and the crib festival in St John’s Church.
