YATE Shopping Centre manager Andy Lowrey will be testing his stamina during a four-day charity bike ride to Paris.

Andy is set to join some 60 other cyclists from the Bristol area in the challenge to pedal to the French capital - a distance of 430km (267 miles).

They will set off at the end of April to help achieve the event’s target of raising £100,000 for Above & Beyond, which supports the Bristol city centre hospitals.

Specifically, the money will go to the major trauma and rehabilitation unit at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Andy, who has completed several overseas trips in recent years to help the hospital, said: “I'm inspired by the work that Above & Beyond does.

“Donations will benefit hundreds of children from across the South West suffering from traumatic brain injuries, brain tumours, epilepsy and cerebral palsy.”

Andy is a keen weekend cyclist and has already raised more than £1,700 ahead of the bike ride.

He said each year more than 40,000 children in the UK were admitted to hospital with severe brain injuries and for many, hospital became a home for months, even years.
