DODINGTON Parish Band is about to celebrate a landmark anniversary at a special concert in Chipping Sodbury.

DODINGTON Parish Band is about to celebrate a landmark anniversary at a special concert in Chipping Sodbury.
The band was formed in 1996 to benefit the local community by improving and widening opportunities for those who wanted to play, especially young people.
It was aimed at those living in Dodington parish, as well as neighbouring Yate and Chipping Sodbury, and today boasts a wide range of ages and musical abilities - from new players and those returning to music to musicians with high levels of experience.
Band secretary Vicki Sims said the mix worked well and ensured help and encouragement for younger ad less experienced players.
Having reached the band’s 20th anniversary, members decided to stage a concert to recognise the achievement and to raise money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, the Grand Appeal.
The event takes place in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall on October 22 at 7.30pm, with tickets on sale for £5 in the town’s tourist information centre.
The band does not take part in competitions but has a wide range of engagements every year, from local fetes and garden parties to concerts.
Practice sessions are on Tuesdays from 7.30pm in Dodington Parish Hall, Finch Road, Chipping Sodbury.
