MORE than 300 people celebrated a favourite fruit when they took part in the annual Abbotswood Apple Day in Yate.
Apple bobbing, jam making and a stall producing apple juice were among attractions at the event, which was a big hit despite intermittent heavy showers.
Visitors also learnt about willow weaving and were able to chat to charities involved with hedgehog rescue and wildlife.
Other highlights included a dog show and entertainment by the Yate Ukulele Group, which runs as part of the University of the Third Age (U3A).
Local groups such as Litterati Arti, which has worked with Abbotswood Primary School on a sculpture made from recycled materials, were also involved. The sculpture can now be seen outside the St Nicholas Family Centre in Abbotswood.
The day formed part of a series of events devised by Abbotswood Action Group, which continue on Saturday, November 26, when the area’s Christmas tree lights are switched on at about 6pm.
Mary Wright, the group’s chairwoman, said other events were posted on the organisation’s Facebook page.
