Armed police arrest man in Yate as train services through station are stopped
ARMED police arrested a man at a house near Yate station this morning.
Trains were stopped from passing through the area for 20 minutes while the operation took place at around 7am.
An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson said the man had been arrested "on suspicion of a firearms offence and sexual offences".
The arrest is not connected to recent appeals relating to sexual offences against girls in the south of the town and neighbouring Chipping Sodbury.
The police spokesperson said: "At around 7am this morning armed officers arrested a man from a property on Station Road, Yate on suspicion of a firearms offence and sexual offences.
"Trains due to pass through Yate were held for approximately 20 minutes for the safety of all those involved while the arrest took place.
"Officers remain at the property and enquiries are ongoing."
