Athletes take aim at target sprint final

Athletes from around the country have competed in Yate at the Target Sprint National Final.

Athletes from around the country have competed in Yate at the Target Sprint National Final.

The event, held at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex was looking to crown the national champion  for 2017. 

Target Sprint was introduced to the UK nationally last year and has grown from strength to strength with over 70 Athletes from across the country qualifying and competing in the final.

Participants have to run 400 metres before shooting five targets with an air rifle. They then run another 400 metres and shoot five more targets before completing a final 400-metre run.

Junior Women National Champion, Katie Robbins, recorded the fastest female time of the day with 5mins 24secs. Katie, a member of Sedgemoor Training is coached by Mark Lodge and is based at Yate Outdoor Training Complex.

Josh Snook also coached by Mark Lodge took the bronze in the Junior Mens National Final.

Both Athletes have only started shooting and being involved with Target Sprint for the last four months.
