EFFORTS have been taken to try and save the native bluebell in Ridge Wood.
British bluebells are under threat from the non-native Spanish bluebell, which is more dominant than its UK cousin.
The wood between Yate and Chipping Sodbury hasn’t escaped the invasion and the Friends of Ridge Wood recently took steps to remove as many Spanish plants as possible before they take over.
Getting rid of them also stops the creation of hybrid plants through cross-breeding.
