THE co-ordinator of Chipping Sodbury’s tourist information centre said its future was under threat unless it found more funding.
Martin Stacey said the TIC relied on council support and grants to maintain the service, with volunteers who staffed the centre working “tirelessly” throughout the year.
But it has lost funding from Yate Town Council, which itself is facing increased costs, and needs to find replacement support.
Mr Stacey said: “The TIC was set up using grants from the parish councils of Dodington, Sodbury and Yate. Following the recent budget cuts, the very survival of the TIC is under threat.”
It is understood about 25 per cent of visitors to the centre in the last quarter of 2015 came from Yate. But Yate Town Council said having given “great consideration” to the TIC’s request, it was not in a position to provide funding as it was picking up costs that had previously been covered by South Gloucestershire Council.
Mr Stacey is now looking for alternative funding and is exploring several options.
Meanwhile, he said the TIC could also earn some money through people using the online charity shopping site Easyfundraising, with donations received when purchases are made.
