The church was full for the ceremony, which was led by the Bishop of Gloucester, the Right Rev Rachel Treweek, and marked the arrival of the Rev Canon David Bowers to the community.
Canon Bowers will take responsibility not only for St John’s but also the churches and congregations in Horton, Little Sodbury and Old Sodbury.
He and his wife, Judith, a nurse, are both from Salford and have two grown-up children.
