Bluebells crash out of FA Cup
YATE Town fell at the first hurdle in their quest to progress in the FA Cup.
The Bluebells lost 2-1 to Bristol Manor Farm at home in the first qualifying round.
It was the first competitive match at Lodge Road for more than six months.
The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute and doubled their advantage with a goal midway through the second half.
Yate pulled one back on the stroke of full time thanks to player-coach and ex-Cardiff City striker Stuart Fleetwood, but they weren’t able to force a replay.
The result will be a disappointment after a solid start to the new season for Yate. In their first league match, they drew 1-1 at Metropolitan Police.
Going behind after 14 minutes, Yate were much improved in the second half, equalising thanks to an own goal after 62 minutes.
The build up to the season saw the Bluebells beat a Bristol City XI 2-0, and beat Paulton Rovers by the same scoreline.
They lost to Hungerford Town 2-0 in their last pre-season friendly.
Yate’s FA Cup match at Lodge Road was watched by a small number of socially-distanced fans.
Home Southern League Premier Division South fixtures against Dorchester, Tiverton Town, Chesham United and Poole Town were due to take place on September 26 and October 6, 17, and 24 respectively, subject to any further changes in coronavirus restrictions.
Commenting on Twitter, one fan who attended the FA Cup match, Adam Thurston, said: “Supporting local whilst I still can. Got everything crossed that this won’t get taken away from us in the next few weeks.”
