THE Sodbury Hare Trail is drawing to a close after proving a hit with residents and visitors to the town.

THE Sodbury Hare Trail is drawing to a close after proving a hit with residents and visitors to the town.

A competition to seek out 20 small statues of decorated creatures that were placed in the windows of shops and other businesses was organised by the town’s chamber of commerce to run alongside the annual Cotswold Hare Trail.

That event involved the placing of 80 5ft-tall sculptures in towns and villages in or near the Cotswolds - four of them in Chipping Sodbury alone.

The aim of the trail was to encourage more people into the area to seek out the hares and find new places to visit.

Both trails continue until September 10, after which the Cotswold hares will be auctioned in aid of the National Star Centre - the specialist further education college for people with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries and associated learning difficulties.

Some of the money raised will also go to a number of smaller projects.

Those who completed special trail maps when looking for the Sodbury hares will have them entered into a draw to win one of 18 signed copies of Mr Hare’s Big Secret by Hannah Dale.

Chamber spokeswoman Laura Lee Phillips said: “Even though we produced more maps than in previous years, a reprint was needed to keep up with demand. It has certainly been a great success for the town.”
