A CAMPAIGN is running to secure victory for Chipping Sodbury in the Great British High Street awards.

A CAMPAIGN is running to secure victory for Chipping Sodbury in the Great British High Street awards.
The town has been nominated in the annual contest, which seeks out the nation’s best shopping streets in places from villages and small market towns to cities and coastal resorts.
Chipping Sodbury will be up against other market towns in the competition and is looking for support from those who live and work in the community, as well as shoppers and visitors, to back the nomination.
The awards are run by the Department for Local Government and Communities, with shortlisted high streets to be announced in mid-October.
Those that reach that stage will then be visited and the public will be able to vote for their local street.
Chipping Sodbury’s effort has been supported by members of Sodbury Chamber of Commerce and Sodbury and Yate Business Association, as well as individual business people, town representatives and local MP Luke Hall.
They hope that the range of independent traders, cafes, pubs, shops and restaurants, as well as the various events held throughout the year, will impress the judges.
But the group behind the entry said they needed those who use the high street to lobby for the town, including through social media. More information about how to do so is on the Visit Sodbury Facebook page.
Mr Hall said: “This year’s bid has been met with such enthusiasm from everyone in Sodbury. It is a first class submission and I really do hope the town gets shortlisted as really does deserve it.”
