Chipping Sodbury rugby round-up

CHIPPING Sodbury powered their way to a 46-25 victory over Gloucester Spartans at The Ridings.

It was a second win in a row for the team after a 26-17 victory away at Old Bristolians the week before.

However, the season got off to a disappointing start when they lost the opener 48-5 at home to Midsomer Norton.

Meanwhile, Chipping Sodbury Ladies welcomed Gordano to the Ridings, looking for their third straight win of the season.

After running in more than 30 points a game in their opening two victories, 36-10 over Dursley and 31-19 over Avonmouth, Sodbury were this time determined to keep a clean sheet.

Sodbury were first to score after being awarded a scrum; some clever play by the backs leading to Katie Lane going over for a try.

Strong running by the Sodbury forwards set up the next score, with centre Katie Lane and wing Kelly-Anne Parsons combining to allow Parsons going over for Sodbury’s try.

Sodbury started the second half with the same momentum as the first half and on 65 minutes fly half Louise Romanowski ripped the ball and quickly shipped it out to returning winger Rebecca Parkhill, who went over for her first try of the game.

With 5 minutes left on the clock, both sides were still looking for any given opportunity to go over the line. Gordano were battling hard but the Sodbury defence would not budge. Taking advantage of a loose ball at the back of a Gordano ruck, winger Rebecca Parkhill scooped the ball and ran in her second of the game, and Sodbury’s final try ,which was converted by Meme Deverill to make the final score 22-0.
