Chipping Sodbury got this season’s campaign underway with a visit from Welsh first division club Caeleon.

The visitors brought along a tough squad of young, dynamic players seasoned with some experienced campaigners and with one pre-season match already under their belts.

In a game of four 20 minute quarters both sides looked strong in attack with Sodbury making some excellent game line breaks and strong carries up the middle.  Caerleon countered with some great wide play and switches of direction of attack.

In defence both sides fumbled tackles and both were guilty of a number of frustrating turn-overs, but generally held out well.

Caerleon dominated the 1st and 4th quarters, scoring multiple tries in the final 20 minutes. Sodbury were dominant in the middle 40 minutes and scored their only try with a strong passage of phase play leading to a touch down by the new first team captain, Matt Cook.

With new coaching team Harvey Skelton and Matt Dew stalking the touchline, there will be plenty to work on in training and a further next pre-season game.
