FIFTY Christmas trees will fill St Mary’s Church in Yate for the second time after the success of a new event last year.

FIFTY Christmas trees will fill St Mary’s Church in Yate for the second time after the success of a new event last year.

Groups, businesses, schools and individuals from the town and surrounding area have been invited to sponsor and decorate a tree, with the collection of festive features going on show during two weekends in December.

The Christmas Tree Festival is being repeated because it was such a hit with visitors in 2016.

Although entry will be free, people will be able to make a donation  to help pay for roof repairs at the church.

Dates for the event are the weekends of December 8-10 and 16-17, with an opening Trees by Candlelight event on Thursday, December 7, from 7pm-9pm featuring Pucklechurch Hand Bell Ringers. St Mary’s own bells will be rung before the event starts.

Throughout the festival, there will be a variety of musical interludes provided by local groups and a special afternoon has been allocated on December 8 for those with mobility difficulties, wheelchair users and parents with buggies.

A festival comedy night has also been organised, with Mark Palmer entertaining the audience on December 16.

Details and tickets are available by contacting Yate Parish Office on  01454 313105.
