THE Dramway that was used to haul coal from Coalpit Heath to a wharf on the River Avon will be the topic for Sodbury Vale Family History Group’s next meeting.
The horse-drawn system was introduced to transport coal to barges on the river near Keynsham.
Jim Pimpernell’s illustrated talk will give the background to its 19th century construction, operation and short life. He will also describe features of the route that remain today.
The event starts at 7.30pm in Shire Way Community Centre, Yate, on Wednesday, February 10.
It will be the last time the venue will be used after 24 years. The group is moving to St Nicholas Church and Family Centre, in Chargrove, where the first meeting in its new home on March 9 will feature a talk on Bristol’s industrial past by Chris Biggs.
