Come and watch the Sodbury Sportive this weekend

LAST minute plans are being put in place for the 8th Sodbury Sportive – now rated one of the top 10 cycling events in the country - which takes place on August 11, starting and finishing at Chipping Sodbury Rugby Club.

It’s a whole new event this year,” said Bill Bennett, organiser and chair of All Chipping In, which runs the Sportive in aid of many local charities.

We’ve set up four brand new excellent and scenic routes to suit all types of riders and we’ve got some super new food stations to keep them refreshed on the way.

"Our Entrée covers 25 miles, the Swift-Half is 50 miles, the Ton-Up is the full 100 miles and there’s the 3Quarters for those who think 75 miles is quite enough! There’s still time to enter so we’d be delighted to top up our numbers to another record-breaking year.

All Chipping In is a charity that does what it says on the tin.

We have tremendous support from various organisations like Rotary, Inner Wheel, MacMillan, See Change, various school PTAs and lots of other individuals. They all help us raise funds which then get distributed to great causes including education, healthcare and social inclusion. Every penny goes to charity and our community benefits from people all chipping in their time and effort.

We can always do with more help - that’s one of the reasons we set up All Chipping In.

"I know there are lots of people out there who don’t have the time to commit regularly to big charitable organisations, but who would love to give something back to their community, if only for a few hours or a few days a year. I want All Chipping In to give them that opportunity – to chip in their help to others in need.”

To see the start of the Sportive, just turn up at the Ridings at 8am and watch the massed departure of the riders – though in several groups to ensure a safe getaway. During the day there will be stalls and activities to entertain the families and friends of the riders and public alike, with live music during the afternoon. All free, all welcome.

There’s also the famous “cow bell finish”, as every rider is “rung home” by an enthusiastic team.

Please come and support the Sportive, and if you would like to chip in some help, Bill would be pleased to hear from you. An email to is all that’s needed to get you chipping in your help to your local community.
