A COMPETITION is being run to capture on camera or in artworks the fields north of Yate that will soon be concreted over for housing.
The contest is being run by Yate Town Council so there will be a record of what is being lost - from hedges, ponds and birds to trees, wild flowers and insects.
It has asked those entering to show what makes the area special through their photographs, paintings and drawings.
Controversial development will see thousands of houses being put on the fields north of Brimsham Park to create what is described as a new neighbourhood, despite strong opposition.
There will also be land for employment and schools. Competition entries must be received by July 31 and a small prize will be given to the winner who captures the essence of the area.
People of all ages, including amateur and professional artists and photographers, can take part.
Full details are available on the council website www.yatetowncouncil.gov.uk or by phoning 01454 866506.
