Cycling spectacular raises £25,000 for charity
A cycling event in and around the Cotswolds and the Severn Valley has been hailed as the best yet by organisers.
Over 1000 riders participated in this year’s Sodbury Sportive and they cycled over a 100-mile, 60-mile or 30-mile route helping to raise around £25,000 for charity.
Organiser Bill Bennett said “It’s the seventh year of the Sodbury Sportive, but the first time it’s been run by a brand-new charity, ‘All Chipping In’ so I’m really pleased it’s gone so well"
Supported by the Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury, the Saddleback Sodbury Sportive is regarded as one of the UK’s most popular cycling sportives. The rides take in countryside, lanes and views which help to attract cyclists from all over the country.
Bill continued “Apart from the cycling, we’ve organised a great reception at the finish-line at the Ridings, including live bands, stalls and shows, and the traditional pasty and beans to replenish the riders’ energy levels but only after they’ve been rung home with alpine cow bells, which was quite a sight.”
Bill is now looking for people to get involved with the new charity; “ I know there are lots of people out there who don’t have the time to commit regularly to big charitable organisations, but who would love to give something back to their community, if only for a few hours or a few days a year. I want “All Chipping In” to give them that opportunity – to chip in their help to others in need.”
