Dedication to Sodbury recognised with awards
THREE Sodbury residents have been recognised for their exceptional work in the community at the inaugural Mayor’s Awards.
The awards, established by mayor James Ball, aim to thank local people for their services, and ensure that their work is acknowledged and rewarded.
The winners – Jane Lund, David Shipp and Brian Fletcher, pictured above – were chosen by the mayor and a panel of Sodbury town councillors. They were looking for people who had gone ‘above and beyond’, working tirelessly over many years for their community.
Jane Lund was selected for her hard work with Sodbury in Bloom and beautiful floral displays throughout the area last year which won her a second gold award from Britain in Bloom.
David Shipp was recognised for many years of commitment and hard work as chairman of the Sodbury Town Trust.
Brian Fletcher was chosen for his dedication to the Sodbury Lions, for his work on the Sodbury Festival and the Santa Runs, which have raised thousands of pounds for local charities.
Mr Ball said: " I have always been encouraged by the enthusiasm of many individuals and groups who go the extra mile for the good of our local community. They work tirelessly and unpaid to make our parish not only beautiful all year round, they also give their time freely, so that many others can benefit from their knowledge and expertise.”
“At a time when many people take things for granted, these local parishioners are happy to keep giving and we can't thank them enough.”
The winners were presented with their awards at Sodbury Town Council’s annual parish meeting.
