NEW play equipment has been installed at Abbotswood Shopping Centre in Yate as part of a community project to carry out improvements at the precinct.

Consultation between local residents, Yate Town Council and the Abbotswood Action Group led to them identifying a need for a play area for small children.

There is now a wooden snake and five log hops in the wild grass area under the trees near the St Nicholas Family Centre.

They were unveiled by Yate’s deputy mayor, Karl Tomasin, on the day of Abbotswood’s community picnic and will be joined later by other play items.

Money for the £1,800 bill was raised through South Gloucestershire Council’s member awarded funding scheme, with councillors Ian Blair, Tony Davis and Gloria Stevens nominating the project for support.
