Old Sodbury YFC are celebrating on two fronts after they find themselves top of the Avon Youth League Division Four and had their FA Charter Standard status confirmed.
Manager Damian Frodsham also announced a new sponsor, with the support of local business Jimmy Deane’s Fruit, Veg and Salad enabled the boys to sport new training tops.
On the pitch, the team continued their strong start with back-to-back victories. A trip to Frampton Rangers yielded 12 goals with no response. From the kick off Old Sodbury attacked in waves and energetic wing play from Ethan Lloyd brought him a hat trick before the break and set Old Sodbury on their way to victory. Leading scorer Ross Womack bagged another 5 goals, ably supported by the lively Robbie Foxwell with 4.
Old Sodbury then travelled to Bath to play much-fancied Timsbury Athletic. In a highly entertaining game the hosts deservedly scored first and looked increasingly dangerous going forward. A few tactical changes allowed Sodbury’s leading goal scorer Womack more freedom and he began to dictate the play as the first half progressed, contributing two of the visitors’ three strikes and giving Old Sodbury a 3-2 lead at the break.
A thrilling second half saw plenty more goals from both teams, with Womack remarkably securing his third 5-goal haul in four league games. Excellent midfield enforcement from Dan Watson and strong attacking intent from Miles Theobald, Callum Heaphy and Ethan Lloyd sealed a 10-6 victory.
Old Sodbury Boys Under 15s team welcomes boys of all abilities who are currently in school years nine and ten. If you are interested in joining contact Damian Frodsham by email at sjdjfrodsham@hotmail.co.uk
