A FAMILY forest trail will be open in Ridge Wood on August 20 to test children’s knowledge of woodland life.
Primary age youngsters can go along to the local nature reserve between Yate and Chipping Sodbury from 2pm-4.30pm for the free Forest Fun Time event.
It has been organised by the Friends of Ridge Wood, with the quiz trail culminating in have-a-go woodland craft sessions.
Trail sheets can be collected from the Jubilee Gardens entrance to the site and all children taking part must be accompanied by an adult.
The event is one of a programme of activities organised by the volunteer friends’ group and follows a successful evening chorus walk led by Ed Drewitt, of TV’s Springwatch fame.
A moth discovery evening, with local expert Ray Barnett, is planned for October as part of South Gloucestershire Council’s Discover festival.
Ridge Wood is on a wedge of high ground that marks the boundary between the towns and is important for its features and diversity of species.
As well as running events for the community, the friends also carry out conservation work in conjunction with South Gloucestershire Council and the site owners, Hanson Aggregates.
