THE Ridge Junior School in Yate has maintained its rating of good after a short inspection by Ofsted.

Inspector Tonwen Empson said the leadership team had maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.

She said headteacher Philip Boult was “driven and determined” to ensure there was “a school family, engaged, aspiring and learning together” and had achieved that.

Ms Empson said there had been an emphasis on improving the teaching of maths and reading but that Mr Boult also believed in developing a wide range of skills for each pupil.

She said: “This is a caring, nurturing school where pupils are well mannered, polite and friendly. Everyone has a chance to shine and do well.

“Most parents are very happy with the school and agree that the school provides well for their children.

“The school is highly inclusive and pupils enjoy learning alongside each other, showing a caring, supportive attitude as they do so.”

She said there had also been an increase in the general expectation across the school for good attendance.

Pupils understood the importance of going to school every day and enjoyed the additional awards and rewards for good attendance that were celebrated frequently.
