Green mean machine just misses victory
The Rotary Racer Greenpower team from Chipping Sodbury School travelled to Dunsfold (the Top Gear race track) in September and came away with second place overall.
Racing in battery powered machines, race one got off to a good start with Tom in the car first holding third position until the timing loop was caught by another car, leading to a red flag.
Despite partially losing the telemetry during the race, which meant the team was unable to see the remaining battery power and having changed driver twice following two quick pit stops Tom, Will and Alfie brought the team home in fourth position.
Another clean start in race two helped Chipping Sodbury maintain position for most of the race. Daniel drove for the first stint, with Fiona, one of their new drivers this season driving second and Will finishing the race in second place.
The heat at Castle Combe 8 days later went smoothly for the team. Pit stops were good, as the team worked efficiently to change drivers, and the team finished the day with a 3rd and a 4th place in the F24 category and a 4th place in the F24+ category.
As well as the trophy received for 3rd place, the team were also awarded with a trophy for the best performing school in South Gloucestershire.
The team are now heading for the Greenpower International Finals at Rockingham Motor Speedway in October.
