CHIPPING Sodbury School has been helped to buy two 3D printers for its Greenpower project through funding from local businesses and organisations.

Pupils have had a long association with Greenpower, which involves them building and then racing battery operated cars in endurance challenges, with help from teachers and parents outside lessons.

Run by the Greenpower Education Trust, the national scheme is aimed at encouraging an interest in engineering among youngsters.

Donations for the printers came via the town’s Waitrose supermarket, from Wotton-under-Edge engineering firm Renishaw and Chipping Sodbury Rotary Club, as well as local residents.

The Rotary club gave £900, while the £395 from Waitrose was the result of shoppers donating tokens through the store’s Community Matters scheme.
