THE final stage in the upgrading of the Witches Hat play area in Yate has been completed with the opening of a skatepark and addition of play equipment.
Most of the transformed playground on Westerleigh Road was officially re-opened in early May as part of a £148,000 improvement project.
Now everything is in place for youngsters to enjoy, including a trampoline, fireman’s pole, new shelter, six-metre bridge and specialist climbing and rope structures. There is also a witch’s hat climbing frame and a fort running through the park to nets in the trees.
Ahead of the finishing touches being added, users of the play area took part in a workshop that taught them how to use traditional woodland tools.
The youngsters were shown how to shave wood and create ladder rungs for one of the play features at the site.
The workshop was organised by Yate Town Council and run by Touchwood, the suppliers of the play equipment.
