MILITARY helicopters seen flying over Yate and Chipping Sodbury were taking part in a major NATO exercise.
The bi-annual exercise ran for 13 days and involved the Royal Navy, the RAF and the Army across various UK locations. It was designed to improve joint operations between the armed forces of participating countries.
Exercise Joint Warrior featured 55 warships and submarines, 70 aircraft and around 13,000 personnel from 14 nations. Aircraft operated from locations such as RAF Brize Norton and the St Athan base in South Wales.
A number of people in Yate and Sodbury saw distinctive twin-rotor Chinooks used in the exercise, some of which carried vehicles suspended beneath them.
