Hockey Club receive new kit courtesy of Tesco

Yate Hockey Club have received a £2,000 grant after support from Tesco shoppers in the ‘bags of help’ scheme.

The money went to buy protective kit to support the development of goalkeepers, and to provide additional training materials such as new hockey balls. This has benefitted both the junior and adults sections of Yate Hockey Club both of which train and play matches at the Yate Outdoor Sports Centre (YOSC).

 

Yate Hockey Club to run  'Back to Hockey' sessions 

The club is now preparing to run 'Back to Hockey' sessions in the new year. The fun sessions are aimed at helping people to get back into the sport or to try their hand at hockey for the first time. Sessions will be  held at Yate Outdoor Sports Centre (YOSC) AstroTurf pitch on Tuesday nights from 15 January to 12 February at 6.15pm and will be free to attend. Details are on the Yate Hockey Club website. Attendees must bring along shin pads and gum shields. Hockey sticks will be provided.

 

Youngsters beat Bath

The club’s under 14s squad beat Bath Buccaneers in a 3-1 victory, which puts the team in an excellent position to qualify for the Avon League semi-finals. The ladies over 35s team also had a successful weekend on home turf, winning 3-1 against Newent on penalties!

Local ladies hockey teams have raised more than £400 after a charity  tournament at Yate Outdoor Sports Centre.  The event raised funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust and teams included BAC, Lydney, South Glos, Keynsham and Yate.
