Amazing success for the 82 Bus campaign
The long-running campaign to bring the 82 Bus back to Chipping Sodbury has now been confirmed as a great success, after First Bus announced the return of the bus service to our town, along with several key improvements and changes that our “Bring Back the 82 Bus” campaign asked for. This is amazing news for Yate and Sodbury residents and local bus users who regularly rely on the service.
Following earlier changes to the 82 bus route, which had meant that local residents were missing out on the service unless they travelled to Yate, I gathered feedback from residents as part of my “Get Yate and Sodbury Moving” campaign to fight back against these changes. Thanks to your strong support and involvement in my transport surveys, petition and campaign, we have been able to secure these improvements, a big win for local public transport users.
I am delighted that local residents will now be able to benefit from a greatly improved 82 Bus service, which will return to Sodbury High Street, with further stops at Station Road and Bowling Hill. This will ensure local residents will enjoy a direct service to Parkway Station, Cribbs Causeway and importantly, a vital connection to Southmead Hospital. The changes are taking place from 27th May, with bus users also seeing an increase in the frequency and reliability of the service with hourly departures, as well as earlier starts and increased capacity thanks to the use of double deckers.
I am delighted that after the work done alongside local businesses, residents and campaigners across Yate and Chipping Sodbury, First Bus have listened to our calls for key improvements to this vital service. With the community’s support, we have ensured the focus remained on this important issue since the beginning, and I would like to thank the hundreds of people who have taken part in my campaign and have helped make this possible. It is with great pleasure that I join local campaigners and residents in celebrating this great success for our area and in welcoming the 82 bus back to Chipping Sodbury.
