EASTER eggs were donated by potential new leisure centre members to give a chocolate treat to families in need.

The Circadian Trust, which runs Yate’s leisure centre and six others across South Gloucestershire, invited those people signing up as members to contribute an egg in return for a reduced joining fee.

It resulted in nearly 140 being collected and passed on to charities such as Yate and Chipping Sodbury foodbank for distribution to families who would otherwise be unable to afford Easter eggs.

Trust spokeswoman Erica Cross said: “Food banks rely on donations to help local people in crisis and it was nice to be able to give a little something to families who wouldn’t normally have the pleasure of an Easter egg.

“We were delighted to be able to support other local charities and at the same time encourage more people to start a healthier, active lifestyle by joining our leisure centres.”
