A NEW lunch club has opened in Abbotswood with the support of a grant from Yate Town Council.

The club is run by team vicar, the Rev Iain McFarlane, with Sue Harrison and members of the St Nicholas Family Centre.

The first meeting took place recently with lunches prepared by Pauline Wilson, who has served up many meals for the Baptist Lunch Club in Chipping Sodbury, and Yate councillor Sue Walker.

It will now meet every Monday from noon, except on bank holidays, with lunches cooked and served by a rota of volunteers.

Councillor Walker said: “The excellent lunch was enjoyed by all those who attended and proved to be a very sociable occasion. All are very welcome to attend, particularly the older members of the community.”

Anyone who would like to attend the club or join the team of volunteers should contact the family centre by emailing st.nicholas.abbotswood@hotmail.co.uk or phoning 01454 324712.
