A DROP-in event has been organised in Yate to establish if there is support for the creation of a Men in Sheds group.

The event is for men over the age of 50 who want to meet like-minded people and learn new practical skills.

The Men in Sheds concept originated in Australia to tackle social isolation and to improve the health and well-being of older men.

It was especially helpful to those who had experienced life-changing events such as redundancy, retirement, bereavement or ill health.

It arrived in the UK when Age Concern piloted the first project in 2008 and was followed by dozens more.

Now Yate Town Council wants local men to hear more about the scheme and decide if a group should be formed for the town.

The drop-in session will be held on Thursday, October 5, from 12.30pm-2.30pm at the Armadillo Youth Café and Venue, next to Yate Leisure Centre. Refreshments will be available.
