The increasingly popular movement has seen a number of groups formed around the country, primarily for older men who want to learn new skills, share existing hobbies and interests, take part in community projects and make new friends.

More than 100 people attended a drop-in event in Yate when the idea for a town group was put forward by Yate Town Council.

It meant an initial idea of using an old shipping container as a base had to be abandoned and more suitable premises sought.

Currently, the group’s members meet at the town’s Armadillo youth cafe on Thursdays at 10.30am.

Despite the name, interest has also been shown in the project by women.

More information about the group can be obtained by emailing  info@yatetowncouncil.gov.uk or phoning Steven Ring on 01454 323857.
