Minister sees Yate community centre
The business minister Clare Perry MP has visited Shireway community centre to see it in action.
The centre provides meeting rooms and a social club, and is a focal point for the area, with the University of the Third Age (U3A), Stroke Club, Smile Friendship Club, and Foster Carers Pit Stop all currently meeting there.
Volunteer managers, centre member Ian Livermore, and Yate MP Luke Hall took part in a discussion with the minister which ended with a commitment to work more closely together to benefit the community.
Centre member Ian said: “It was a pleasure to invite Claire as business minister to showcase our community centre. The committee works tirelessly to provide a great centre for South Yate so I pleased with the discussions and ideas we had for some future projects we can all work together on.”
Ms Perry said: “It was pleasure to accept Ian and Luke’s invitation to visit the Shireway Community centre to see a real community hub in action last week. After meeting Bob and the team, it was clear that there were some really positive ways in which Ian, Luke and the centre can all work together to see improvement in the South Yate Community.”
