PRIORITY will be given to the creation of a replacement care home on the site of the former Frome House in Yate now that councillors have declared it surplus to requirements.
The old home in Cranleigh Court Road was demolished after being closed down by South Gloucestershire Council.
But although its resources sub-committee agreed to put the site up for sale, it was on condition that an organisation or company should develop a new home if possible.
The council has to save £36 million, with £20 million to come from the disposal of council-owned property instead of cutting services.
Council deputy leader John Goddard said using the site for a new home would increase the number of places for the elderly and vulnerable to receive care.
