CONSULTATION has opened on new sections of the Yate spur cycle path, a scheme that will provide a safer route for bike users and pedestrians.

Once completed, the path will to provide a continuous off-road route from the town to the Avon Ring Road and Bristol and Bath railway path.

South Gloucestershire Council said it was currently liaising with Network Rail regarding the path at the Westerleigh Road/Shire Way railway bridge, while details for the Dodmoor crossing to Nibley Lane section were being developed.

Dodington parish councillor Paul Hulbert said: “We have stressed that the Nibley Lane junction has additional problems - it's not an easy junction at the best of times - and that nearby residents will need proper consultation about the Westerleigh Road length.

“This consultation isn't just for cyclists. anyone who drives along Westerleigh Road or lives in Chedworth or Rodborough will have a particular interest in the proposals.”

The consultation is open until January 15.
