New management at Yate Town FC
Yate Town have confirmed the appointment of Craig Laird as their First Team Manager and Rob Boyd as his assistant.
Yate Town have confirmed the appointment of Craig Laird as their First Team Manager and Rob Boyd as his assistant. Craig has previously undertaken management roles at Weston Super Mare, Bridgewater Town, and more recently as Assistant Manager at Weymouth. Rob has worked with Craig at Weston.
With extensive well-established contacts with local teams and academies across the region the new management team say they were attracted by Yate’s potential, and were particularly drawn to the club because of the success of the Youth Development section.
Nigel Hawkins, who is continuing in his role as Director of Football and was instrumental in bringing the pair to Yate Town, said; “I am delighted that all connected with the Club are excited by the possibilities of more success in the future and can look forward to next season with great anticipation”.
The new structure, in place ahead of the Easter programme, started positively with wins against Bishops Cleeve and fifth placed Larkhall Athletic over the holiday period.
This impressive start continued with a goalless draw against Champions Merthyr Town, watched by almost 400 fans at Lodge Road.
A 1-1 draw at Taunton Town followed but Yate missed out on a play off spot to Larkhall and Taunton.
The Under 18’s team proved to be the most successful for Yate, winning their division in the Somerset Floodlight Youth League, losing only one match in the process.
A win in the Gloucestershire FA Under 18 Shield followed when they beat Gloucester City 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time, a first for the club in this prestigious competition.
The Youth Team just missed out in the Final of the Somerset FYL League Cup, in what would have been an unprecedented treble, losing 2-1 to their Premier division opponents Weston in another excellent, pulsating Final.
