THE search is on to find community heroes in South Gloucestershire.
Nominations have opened for an annual awards scheme, which recognises the valuable contribution that local volunteers make to life in the district.
They range from charity fund raisers to sports coaches and arts festival organisers and for the latest awards, nominations for groups as well as individuals will be welcomed.
The accolades are given each year by the chairman or woman of South Gloucestershire Council, with an award ceremony taking place next March. The deadline for the 2017 nominations is Monday, January 16.
Erica Williams, the current council chairwoman, said: “Our community awards have been running since 2003 to celebrate the contribution local people make to life in South Gloucestershire. More than 400 people have received an award since they started.
“It is really important to recognise the dedication of the many volunteers that give up their own time to bring our communities together and improve the lives of local people. These awards offer a great way to celebrate their hard work and commitment.”
The Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Dame Janet Trotter, will also select one of the winners to receive a special Lord Lieutenant’s Award.
Nominations can be made via the council’s website, by emailing communityawards@southglos.gov.uk or by phoning 01454 863019.
