Police in Chipping Sodbury and the Cotswold Edge area are taking to two wheels this summer to get around their beats.

Avon and Somerset Police have invested in new electric bikes so that officers on larger beats can take to two wheels and still patrol effectively.

Officers in Chipping Sodbury and Cotswold Edge have taken delivery of the new bikes as well as in Charfield, Winterbourne Cadbury Heath and Oldland.

Neighbourhood Inspector Clive Summerill said: “Beat managers and PCSOs in our towns already patrol on foot or bicycle. In some of our more rural beats that’s been more difficult.

“Four beats now have electric bikes, which will enable them to get around more effectively than pedal power alone while being more visible and accessible than patrolling by car.
