A SCHEME to develop playing fields on a landfill site next to Shire Way Community Centre in Yate has been withdrawn.

A SCHEME to develop playing fields on a landfill site next to Shire Way Community Centre in Yate has been withdrawn.

Long running proposals for the site have been in the pipeline for many years but despite being given planning permission, have never progressed.

The first time a scheme was drawn up for the green belt site was in 1992, with the most recent consent given in 2007.

Bristol and Avon Transport and Recycling submitted the latest application but Dodington Parish Council said in its current form, there were a lot of unanswered questions.

It said there were also concerns about the number of lorry movements that would be involved should the application be granted, especially with regard to the use of residential roads and the nearness of schools.a

Meanwhile, Sport England said a number of issues needed to be addressed to ensure the proposal was fit for purpose for community sport.

Oaktree Environmental, consultants for the applicants, has now withdrawn the plan.
