Police seek man who tried to rob teenager at knifepoint in Yate

A TEENAGE boy was threatened with a knife by a man near a church in Yate.

Police have called on anyone who remembers a man fitting the description of the suspect – a man about 6ft tall wearing grey jogging bottoms and a black Puffa jacket – behaving suspiciously to contact them.

Avon and Somerset police said the incident, which is being treated as an attempted robbery, happened near to St Mary’s Church, in Church Road, late one evening in November.

Sergeant Stuart King said: “The victim has only recently told his parents about the incident, who have since reported it to us.

“Unfortunately, he can’t recall exactly what day it happened but as offences of this kind are rare in Yate, we’re hoping someone may recall witnessing the incident or someone acting suspiciously in the area late at night."

The boy ran off and was not injured but police have appealed for witnesses and information about the incident.

Sgt King added: “Officers continue to patrol the area to provide reassurance to the community and I’d encourage anyone with information to approach them or contact us on the phone or online.”

Anyone who can help should call 101 and quote the crime reference number 5222 007 128.
