Promotion form continues in summer league for Puckle
Still on a high from the news of promotion to Division One next season, the Pucklechurch girls were buzzing for Summer league to start. Beaming sunshine greeted us at Wellsway School in Keynsham for our first fixture against Keynsham 1st’s.
After having over a months rest or so, it was a bit of a start-stop beginning with a few passes going astray and players bunching around the ball. However, the Puckle girls soon got in the flow of things and started playing their game. With more accurate passing, lots of calling and great teamwork the goals would soon start coming.
Last seasons top goal scorer Sophie Edwards continued her ways, hitting the backboard twice and one from Rhian ‘Leopard’ Phillips would see the final score line 3-0 to Pucklechurch. A great start to the Summer!
Next up, the girls in royal blue and gold faced opponents Knowle 1st’s. Again, beautiful sunshine met us as we all limbered up ready to take them on. Having not lost a game since January, the determination not to lose grows with every game!
Pucklechurch got off to a storming start and within the first 10 minutes a long ball into the D from Laura Stone would see Sophie Edwards get a touch on it and deflect it past the goalie. This would be the first of many goals. Next up, a cracking strike from Phillips from a short corner. The 3rd goal would be provided from Amy Davidge after a rebound from the goalies pads.
We started the 2nd half off a bit scrappily but soon sorted this out and took control of the game. With superb shadowing from Tina Scammell and Laura Davidge, and tight marking from everyone, Knowle found it difficult to break through.
With forwards connecting well with the halves and wing Emily Pollock making storming runs down the right wing more goals soon followed. A short corner, brilliantly executed from Laura Stone followed by another from Sophie Edwards saw us 5-0 up. Amy Dav got her 2nd of the game - somehow fumbling it over the line. Captain Lisa Whitehead was then denied a goal from a belting short corner strike. Final whistle 6-0 to Pucklechurch.
Pucklechurch Ladies are based at the Winterbourne International Academy where they play their home matches on a Saturday morning and train on a Monday night. We welcome all players of all abilities, so why not pop along and check us out.
