FAMILIES defied threatening clouds to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday with a picnic at Abbotswood, Yate.

FAMILIES defied threatening clouds to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday with a picnic at Abbotswood, Yate.
Poor weather meant the event had to be switched from the grassed area in front of the shops into the St Nicholas Family Centre.
But it cleared up later, allowing games for children to be held in the community garden. Some 80 local residents attended the event, which was organised by Abbotswood Action Group.
As well as marking the special birthday, the picnic was also a celebration of the Abbotswood area
Paul Hulbert, vice-chairman of the group, said: “The picnic really brought the community together. The team worked really hard and produced a great event.
