A RECORD breaking sum of more than £54,900 was raised through this year’s Yate Relay for Life.

A RECORD breaking sum of more than £54,900 was raised through this year’s Yate Relay for Life.
The annual event at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex involved 32 teams and 350 participants completing a relay around the track for 24 hours in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Music helped to keep them going and survivors of cancer were there to inspire everyone taking part. A Candle of Hope ceremony also allowed people to remember those lost to the disease.
The sum raised was announced at a post-event party, when a number of awards were also presented.
Hayley Farmer-Hall, the Yate Relay For Life cancer awareness chairwoman and a scientist with Cancer Research UK, said: “Thanks to the hard work of more than 350 very generous people, clinical trials can be funded so that we can make cancer treatments kinder.”
The event enters its 12th year in 2017, when it will be held on July 1 and 2. Anyone interested in being involved can go online to www.yaterelayforlife.org for information and details about registration.
