PARISH leaders in Dodington have published a new leaflet to encourage people to find out about events in their community.

The Discover Dodington 2017 programme draws together a wide range of activities that are run by local organisations.

Copies will be delivered to every address in the parish, with others available from Chipping Sodbury Tourist Information Centre or from Dodington Parish Council itself.

Details of the events are also on the Discover Dodington page of the council’s website.

Councillor Paul Hulbert, who put the programme together, said: “People often say there's not much happening here.

“But there are 35 special events between June and November this year, plus another seven events that run regularly every month. They include nature walks, talks, playschemes, sports training, community events and work sessions.

"All the activities are free of charge but there are age restrictions on some of them. Also, some of the activities are on a first come, first served basis. People can contact the council on 01454 866546 to find out more.”

Parish clerk Hannah Saunders said: "We thought Discover Dodington would be a good way to promote and celebrate the wide variety of events that are being put on by 16 different local organisations.

"We're hoping that we can get more people actively involved in our very lively community, especially families. There's something for everyone in this programme.

“The message is to get out and about and discover what’s on in Dodington parish and nearby areas.”

The parish is a mixture of town and country, with the urban part covering the area between Shire Way and Rodford Way and the “Birds” estates on either side of Heron Way.

The rural section runs from the railway line south to the M4 and includes the hamlets of Codrington, Dodington and Wapley.
