SCARECROWS have been appearing in and around Thornbury to spread the word about Rockhampton Folk Festival.

This year’s event takes place in its countryside venue on Saturday, June 17, with a line-up that includes BBC Young Folk Musician award winner Greg Russell. Greg will be appearing alongside Ray Hearne, who describes himself as a Yorkshire Irish kid.

Vocal Global, gipsy swing from The Schmoozenbergs, Fife and Strum and The Hosen Ones have also been booked to appear.

This year’s festival has been recognised by Arts Council England and with its support, the organisers have been able to bring top quality artists to the village. They are also supporting young musicians, with the Wriggle Jigglers and Panache steel band set to entertain festival-goers.

Tickets can be bought through the festival website, with Early Bird discounts only available until May 31. They are also on sale in Surroundings in Thornbury. Gates will open at 2.30pm, with locally produced food and drink available and parking provided next to the festival site.

However, anyone who cycles to the event will receive a free slice of cake as a thank-you for leaving their car at home.
