MATILDA the minibus was driven to North Road Primary School in Yate after pupils chose the name for the new vehicle.
Yate-based Green Community Travel received two buses through the Department of Transport’s community transport minibus fund this year to help more people get out and about.
South Gloucestershire councillor Marian Lewis, who is on the management committee of the not-for-profit community transport company as well as being a member of the Friends of North Road Primary School, asked the pupils to come up with a name for one of the buses.
In a hotly contested competition, youngsters submitted their suggestions and drawings, with Mia Rushent, eight, and nine-year-old Bryony Hinder choosing the winning name of Matilda, inspired by the Roald Dahl character.
They were each presented with a book token by head teacher Sarah Stillie and Jenny Bright, manager of the travel organisation.
Recently painted Matilda is now on the road, providing transport for people who have difficulty using conventional bus services.
