Sodbury in Bloom scoops gold
Sodbury in Bloom is celebrating a gold award in the Champion of Champions category of the RHS South West in Bloom competition.
The team say they are pleased, as they were judged to the national standard this year. The Community Garden, due to open in the spring was assessed as being outstanding.
A team spokesperson said: ‘This is an award for the whole town and we would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way at all and a special thank you to the volunteers from local company Hanson who all worked so hard.’
Sodbury in Bloom is now busy organising displays of knitted and crocheted poppies throughout the town to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One.
Local voluntary groups and organisations have been hard at work all summer producing around 3,000 poppies. A spokesperson for SIB said: “this is an amazing result and we would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has contributed. Whether you knitted 10 or 100 or even more a huge thank you.”
Displays are planned for the War Memorial, outside all three churches and by the commemorative seat outside the Millennium garden on the corner of St John's Way.
There will also be a display in St John’s Church about the men who are commemorated on the War Memorial, which forms part of a larger display organised by the church.
