Chipping Sodbury School Year 9 rugby team kicked of their season with a convincing 20-0 win over the hosts at a tournament at YIA.

The tournament proved to be a successful event for the team who went on to record a 15-10 victory in a hard fought match against Marlwood and another 15-10 win against Bradley Stoke. In their final game against Brimsham, which proved to be the most physical game of all, Chipping Sodbury won 20-10.

A special mention must go to Cory Gillard who led from the front as captain and made some huge tackles in every game. The team line up: Cory Gillard, Ben Keeping, Ed Lovell, Ed Walters, Sam Davis, James Offer, Harry Toogood, Luke Savage, Mark Southron and Harvey Todd.

The Under 16’s rugby team also started their season with a ‘triad tournament’ at YIA and as with the Year 9’s they faced YIA in their first game. The Chipping Sodbury Team finished with a fine 17-5 victory with Matt Day scoring a brace and Max Elliot going over for the third try. There were some excellent passages of play and exciting attacking rugby.

Marlwood proved to be tougher opponents with the score finishing 17-7 to Marlwood.

It was an encouraging start to the rugby season for the Chipping Sodbury youngsters, especially with only one training session being held prior to the tournament.

The Under16s team included:

Eddie Holden, Matt Day, Nathan Penny, Joe Jefferies, Sam Ford, Haydn Wollen, Tobie Parsons, Max Elliott , Mason Dando, Reuben Forrester.
